Track Laborer (Alaska Railroad)
About this role
Note: This is an FRA-covered position. FRA-covered employees are those employees who have been assigned to perform regulated services as roadway workers and are therefore subject to the random pool for monthly drug and alcohol testing. PURPOSE OF POSITION: Build, maintain, and repair railroad track while working as a member of a crew or gang under the direction of a foreman, leader, or supervisor. Duties and Responsibilities: ¨ Removes snow, mud, ice and rock on rail bed, in tun. This is a construction opportunity with State of Alaska in Douglas, Juneau. General construction and site work — building, remodeling, and preparing structures. Crews handle everything from foundations and framing to demolition and finish work, often outdoors and on active job sites.
What you'll do
- Prepare and clean job sites, load and unload materials
- Assist skilled trades with framing, concrete, and structural work
- Operate hand and power tools safely
- Follow site safety protocols and wear required PPE
- Measure, cut, and position building materials to spec
